This is our first venture into the unique world of Pedro Almodovar. One of the most innovative and entertaining of European directors. His is a world of soap opera incidents and has the style of 1950s Hollywood melodrama and a dark sense of humour. You would learn nothing from a plot synopsis but this is a woman’s world of crisis and the practical solutions she finds. Penelope Cruz manages day to day mayhem and absurdity into something with a logic entirely of its own . Almodovar is a genius. This is probably his finest film. Prepare to be enchanted.
